Microsurgery
Dr.Wong is one of a few surgeons on the West Coast trained to perform surgery with an operating microscope, which allows him to repair structures that are too small to be appreciated with the unaided eye.
Microsurgery utilizes suture (stitches) that is 0.02 mm to 0.04 mm in diameter to reconstruct arteries, veins, and nerves of diseased, amputated, or partially amputated fingers and hands. In the past, patients often faced more disfiguring and functionally limiting operations, however these innovative microsurgical techniques now allow Dr.Wong the opportunity to reconstruct and save extremities.
This photograph shows the relative size of an artery and suture (needle and thread) compared to a dime.
